I am currently participating in a 3 month artist residency at TechShop San Jose. During my residency, I used the technology and tools available at TechShop to create my new series inspired by the naturalists of the Victorian era. In “Diary of a Naturalist” knowledge and wonderment go hand in hand as I combine my love for books and natural history.
With the Epilog laser,I etched images of botanicals, insects, and other natural elements onto antique and vintage book covers. Included in the exhibit are a variety of glass specimen bottles from my personal collection, each bearing a laser-etched image identifying its contents. By interlacing art and science I explore the connection between man-made and natural objects; evoking a sense of nostalgia for the classic age of exploration and discovery.
