I love collecting natural objects, especially ones I discover by accident. My purse and pockets are usually hiding some treasure I've found on the ground, or discovered crossing my path in some way. Leaves, seedpods, insects and stems: I am astonished by the endless variety in the natural world. "Subtle Meditations" is my attempt to represent these objects with all of their ephemeral beauty. By transforming ordinary observations into intriguing fragments of the natural world, I seek to transcend the simple notions of nature.

This series consist of photographic C prints that have been hand altered, distressed, and hand painted. Part of this series is mounted and nailed onto found wood panels with blemished and flawed surfaces that honor the effects of time. Other prints are displayed in floating frames, giving the image an almost scientific feel. By presenting my photographs in this way, I attempt to free the photographic medium from the burden of its traditional representation. Treating them in the same manner a painter treats a canvas, I approach each photograph as something to be created, changed, and manipulated, rather than being the final creation.
