Postal Entomology - 30 Days of Art and Letters

$20.00

Postal Entomology grew out of two long-standing loves of mine: insects and correspondence.

Every day for the month of April 2020, I created a small encaustic painting using vintage postcards and envelopes, each one featuring an insect. Once finished, I mailed the piece by actual snail mail to someone somewhere across North America. This project unfolded during the early shelter-in-place days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when distance felt especially heavy and connection felt especially precious.

The work became a quiet tribute to a nearly obsolete form of communication, and to the insects and pollinators that quietly connect ecosystems every day. Like letters, insects move between places, carrying meaning, impact, and life with them.

This book gathers all 30 pieces from that month-long practice. Each artwork is lovingly photographed, showing layers of vintage handwriting, postal marks, wax, and imagery of bees, beetles, moths, and butterflies. Thirty days of art and letters—an archive of connection made during a time of deep isolation.

An 8.5 x 8.5 full color, soft cover art book
